New Show - March 2007

Baz will be opening March 14 in "Desire in the Suburbs" a new play at

Update - 2007

2006 was a quiet year for Baz, with sailing parties, various adventures on the water in and around New York, and a few more appearances on Conan O'Brien. The highlight of the year was a magnificent production of "The Great White Hope" at the bandshell in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. Baz played Cap'n Dan, a fight promoter and retired heavyweight champion (for some wonderful photos of the production, click on http://web.mac.com/mayoone).

Baz works regularly with playwrights in the Manhattan Oracles writing group and looks forward every month to "Foolish Wednesdays," another playwriting group which specializes in comedy. Monthly readings of new plays and works in progress at the Drama Book Shop keep Baz's "instrument sharp."

Baz continues to record books for the blind at JBI, an international organization which provides recordings, large print books and Braille books with a Jewish theme free of charge to the sight impaired worldwide. As part of that, Baz has portrayed Shylock in a recording of "The Merchant of Venice" and once again got to play a frustrated father in a new play recorded by JBI for international distribution.

Baz's 36 foot sloop also continues to give him joy (and a little frustration). Baz particularly enjoys putting together sailing parties of actors and other professionals. Good food, exotic drinks, great company and sun and water. Maybe even a little wind now and then.

Vital Theater Company
This is a play reading group, dedicated to assisting playwrights, producers and directors in the development and production of new plays.

Actors participate in staged or cold readings of complete plays or re-written scenes, and discuss the strength and weaknesses from an actor's point of view. Vital Theater utilizes the play reading group in deciding the season of plays to be produced at their West 42nd Street theater.

Jewish Braille Institute
For several years, Baz has been recording books for the blind (talking books) for this non-profit institute.

JBI provides tapes of books with a Jewish theme or involving Jewish characters free of charge to blind and visually impaired readers in the United States, Europe and South America. All readers and directors (most are professional actors) are volunteers, and Baz has gained enormous satisfaction from this activity.
